Artist statement

I am Sam Lee, a creative visual artist residing in California, USA.

With a scholarly background in traditional Korean art, my artistic identity stems from a potent blend of video aesthetics and pictorial innovation, resulting in compelling artworks. Recent works include video pieces that integrate A.I. art with musical soundscapes.

My current artistic focus revolves around tracing traces of personal consciousness, manifested through simple symbolic elements of nature. By layering multifaceted color washes based on personal visual memories, I depict the ambiguous ideological worlds of specific subjects in a primal manner. Employing techniques of splattering, dripping, and throwing paint onto canvas, I visualize my personal emotions, memories, and ideas about the world through a unique artistic process characterized by uncertainty, spontaneity, and diversity. Within screens filled with lush forests, animals, and geometric shapes, the flowing streams of waterfalls metaphorically represent the flow of human consciousness, equating it with natural phenomena.

Furthermore, in my video works, I express my subjective consciousness using simple objects from nature such as the human body, animals, flowers, trees, and waterfalls to represent objectified aspects of my consciousness. Leveraging visual memory, I dynamically portray the uncertainty, transformation processes, and organic nature of objects through vivid imagery. My video works seamlessly harmonize with original soundtracks, offering immersive sensory experiences. Driven by a pursuit of relentless innovation, I aim to break new ground in the digital art domain and expand the boundaries of what is possible. The <Mutant Hybe_series> reflects my deep reverence for the beauty of the world's creations and aims to inspire people to accept the magic of artistically expressing the fluidity of water. My video works visualize the breathtaking beauty of coincidental visual aesthetics intricately woven with meticulously crafted musical compositions generated by A.I.

In conclusion, as an artist, I explore my emotions, memories, and thoughts about the world through abstract experimentation in visual art. In summary, my visual artworks apply an exploration of personal conscious identity to artistic expression, employing painting and video media to depict the discord and harmony of diverse and disparate subjects within the artwork's themes.
