Solo Exhibition by Tangying Shen · With Live Music
Shen's Wondering explores the evolving relationship between identity, womanhood, resilience, and self-discovery.
My work often begins with personal emotions and observations, but gradually expands into questions about how women understand themselves within family, culture, relationships, and society.
Through fragmented figures, layered colors, recurring patterns, and symbolic imagery, I explore the tension between vulnerability and strength. The women in my work are not presented as fixed or complete identities. Instead, they exist in moments of questioning, transformation, resistance, and growth.
This exhibition brings together paintings and ceramic works created across different periods of my artistic practice. Although these mediums have different physical qualities, they share a visual language. Colors, botanical forms, patterns, and cultural references move between two-dimensional surfaces and three-dimensional objects, allowing the works to respond to one another within the exhibition space.
Shen's Wondering does not seek to provide a single answer. It is an ongoing process of questioning, remembering, changing, and discovering new ways of seeing oneself.
